The fox looked up at the crow and said politely, “Good morning, Mr. Crow! How handsome you look today! Your feathers are so shiny and bright. I am sure your voice must be as sweet as your appearance. Will you please sing a song for me? I would love to hear your sweet voice.”

একদা এক কাক কোথাও থেকে এক টুকরো মাংস পেল। সে মাংসের টুকরোটি ঠোঁটে নিয়ে উড়ে এসে একটি উঁচু গাছের ডালে বসল।

একটি চালাক শিয়াল সেই গাছের নিচ দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। সে খুব ক্ষুধার্ত ছিল। কাকের ঠোঁটে মাংসের টুকরোটি দেখে তার মুখে জল এল। সে যেকোনো উপায়ে মাংসের টুকরোটি পেতে চাইল। তাই সে গাছের নিচে দাঁড়িয়ে একটি খারাপ মতলব আঁটল।

এমন উচ্চ প্রশংসা শুনে বোকা কাকটি খুব গর্বিত ও তোষামোদে গলে গেল। সে একদম ভুলে গেল যে তার ঠোঁটে মাংসের টুকরো রয়েছে। নিজের মিষ্টি কণ্ঠ দেখাতে সে মুখ খুলল এবং “কাঃ! কাঃ!” বলে ডাকল ।
