A Greedy Farmer
Once upon a time, there lived a poor farmer in a small village. He had a wonderful goose. Every day, the goose laid a golden egg. The farmer used to sell the golden egg in the market and made a good amount of money. Gradually, he became rich and solvent.
However, the farmer was very greedy. He was not satisfied with getting only one egg a day. He wanted to become the richest man in the village overnight.
One day, an evil idea came into his mind. He thought that the belly of the goose must be full of golden eggs. He decided to kill the goose and get all the eggs at once. He consulted with his wife about his foolish plan. His wise wife warned him not to be greedy and to be happy with what they had, but the farmer did not listen to her.
The next morning, when the goose laid a golden egg, the farmer caught it. He took a sharp knife and cut open the belly of the goose. To his utter shock, he found no eggs inside—only blood and flesh. The poor goose died immediately.
The greedy farmer realized his foolishness and burst into tears, but it was too late. Because of his greed, he lost the wonderful goose and all his future golden eggs.
Moral:

বাংলা অনুবাদ (Bangla Meaning)
একসময় এক গ্রামে এক গরিব কৃষক বাস করতেন। তার একটি চমৎকার রাজহাঁস ছিল। প্রতিদিন রাজহাঁসটি একটি করে সোনার ডিম পাড়ত। কৃষক প্রতিদিন বাজারে সেই সোনার ডিম বিক্রি করতেন এবং বেশ ভালো টাকা পেতেন। ধীরে ধীরে তিনি বেশ ধনী ও সচ্ছল হয়ে উঠলেন।
কিন্তু কৃষকটি ছিল খুব লোভী। সে প্রতিদিন মাত্র একটি ডিম পাওয়ায় সন্তুষ্ট ছিল না। সে রাতারাতি গ্রামের সবচেয়ে ধনী ব্যক্তি হতে চেয়েছিল।
একদিন তার মাথায় এক খারাপ বুদ্ধি এল। সে ভাবল, রাজহাঁসের পেটটি নিশ্চয়ই সোনার ডিমে ভরপুর। সে রাজহাঁসটিকে মেরে একসাথে সব ডিম পাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। সে তার স্ত্রীর সাথে এই বোকামি পরিকল্পনা নিয়ে কথা বলল। তার বুদ্ধিমান স্ত্রী তাকে লোভ করতে নিষেধ করলেন এবং যা আছে তাতেই সন্তুষ্ট থাকতে বললেন, কিন্তু কৃষক তার স্ত্রীর কথা শুনল না।
পরদিন সকালে রাজহাঁসটি একটি সোনার ডিম পাড়লে কৃষক সেটিকে ধরে ফেলল। সে একটি ধারালো ছুরি নিয়ে রাজহাঁসের পেট চিরে ফেলল। কিন্তু চরম ধাক্কা খেয়ে সে দেখল ভেতরে কোনো ডিম নেই—শুধু রক্ত আর মাংস। বেচারা রাজহাঁসটি সাথে সাথে মারা গেল।
লোভী কৃষকটি তার বোকামি বুঝতে পেরে অঝোরে কাঁদতে লাগল, কিন্তু ততক্ষণে বড্ড দেরি হয়ে গেছে। লোভের কারণে সে তার জাদুকরী রাজহাঁস এবং ভবিষ্যতে পাওয়া সব সোনার ডিম চিরতরে হারিয়ে ফেলল।
