Festivals of Bangladesh
Introduction:
Bangladesh is a land of colorful festivals. There is a famous proverb in Bengal, "Baro Mase Tero Parbon," which means thirteen festivals in twelve months. People of different religions and cultures live here in peace and harmony. They celebrate various festivals throughout the year with great enthusiasm.
Religious Festivals:
Religious festivals play a vital role in our lives. Muslims are the majority in Bangladesh. Their main religious festivals are Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. On Eid days, Muslims wear new clothes, pray together in the Eidgah, and share delicious foods like simai, polao, and meat with family and neighbors.
Durga Puja is the largest festival for Hindus. They worship Goddess Durga and distribute sweets. Buddhists celebrate Buddha Purnima, and Christians celebrate Christmas with great joy.
Cultural Festivals:
Pahela Baishakh (the first day of the Bangla New Year) is the biggest cultural festival in Bangladesh. People from all walks of life join this festival. Men wear Panjabi, and women wear traditional red and white sarees. They eat Panta Ilish (soaked rice with fried hilsa fish) and take part in the colorful Mangal Shobhajatra.
National Festivals:
Besides religious and cultural events, we celebrate several national days with deep respect. International Mother Language Day (21st February), Independence Day (26th March), and Victory Day (16th December) are our proud national festivals. We pay homage to our brave martyrs on these days.
Conclusion:
Festivals are an essential part of our social life. They break the monotony of daily routine and bring happiness, peace, and love to our minds. They unite all the people of Bangladesh into a single bond of brotherhood.
