Once upon a time, there was a king named Robert Bruce of Scotland. He was a brave and good ruler who loved his country deeply. At that time, Scotland was under the control of the English army. Robert Bruce wanted to free his motherland and fought against the English again and again.

He fought six battles against the English forces, but unfortunately, he was defeated every single time. Losing his kingdom and all hope, he fled to save his life and took shelter in a lonely cave. While lying in the cave in a gloomy and depressed mood, he was thinking about his repeated failures and misfortune.

Suddenly, his eyes fell upon a little spider. The spider was trying to climb up to the ceiling of the cave to weave its web. It tried to climb, lost its grip, and fell down. It tried a second time, and failed again. It kept trying third, fourth, fifth, and sixth times and every time it fell to the floor.

Bruce watched the tiny creature with deep interest. He wondered if it would give up. Instead, the spider gathered its strength and made a seventh attempt (or eighth attempt in some versions). This time, after a hard struggle, it successfully reached the ceiling of the cave.

Seeing this, Robert Bruce felt a sudden spark of courage and inspiration in his heart. He thought, "If a tiny spider can succeed after failing six times, why should I lose heart?"

এককালে স্কটল্যান্ডের রাজা ছিলেন রবার্ট ব্রুস। তিনি একজন সাহসী ও ভালো শাসক ছিলেন এবং তাঁর দেশকে ভীষণ ভালোবাসতেন। তখন স্কটল্যান্ড ইংরেজি বাহিনীর অধীনে ছিল। রবার্ট ব্রুস তাঁর মাতৃভূমিকে স্বাধীন করতে চেয়েছিলেন এবং বারবার ইংরেজদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করেছিলেন।

Robert Bruce and the Spider (রবার্ট ব্রুস ও মাকড়সা)

Robert Bruce was a famous king of Scotland. He was a brave, kind, and patriot leader. He loved his country and his countrymen very much. However, his country fell into the hands of King Edward I of England. King Robert Bruce fought heroically to defend his motherland, but he was defeated time and again by the vast English army. He fought as many as six times, but victory eluded him every single time. Losing all hope, the heartbroken king fled the battlefield and took shelter in a remote cave in a deep forest.

While sitting inside the dark cave in deep despair, Bruce thought that he would never be able to regain his kingdom. Suddenly, he noticed a tiny spider trying to reach the ceiling of the cave to weave its web. The spider tried to climb up the steep wall, but every time it reached near the top, it slipped and fell to the ground.

Bruce watched the spider carefully. To his great surprise, the spider did not lose heart. It tried again and again. The spider failed six times in a row, just as King Bruce had failed six times in his battles. But on its seventh attempt, the spider exerted all its strength and finally succeeded in reaching the ceiling to complete its web.

This perseverance of the little creature brought a dramatic change in Bruce's mind. He thought to himself, "If a small spider can succeed through repeated efforts after failing six times, why should I give up hope?" Inspired by the spider, King Bruce gathered new courage and hope. He came out of the cave, collected his scattered soldiers, and organized a strong army once again. He attacked his enemies for the seventh time.
